How To Be Prepared If You Don’t Get One More Day: Things To Consider Before You Pass

Today I want to share with you about one more day.

After I shared the 7 lessons I learned from my mom, I realized how many out there have lost their moms. I thought about all of those who wished they had just one more day with their loved ones.

So, today I’m going to teach you the things to prepare for in case you don’t get that chance. I’m giving you an essential planning list from a financial, relational, emotional, and spiritual standpoint.

Firstly, you need to get your key documents in order. These include a list of important contacts, insurance policies, investment statements, account numbers, credit cards, loan documents, titles and deeds, anything with a list of serial numbers for personal property, account passwords, and a list of artwork, vehicles, and equipment you own. The most vital of those documents is the durable power of attorney and healthcare directives, which only work while you’re living.

Secondly, get all your financial information in order. Get your pension account, 401k, and other benefits that you have through work all put down in a document. Make sure your loved ones know where you bank, if you have a trust account, and where your will and safety deposit box are.

To prepare all who work with you, figure out what they need to know and what happens if you’re not there to help them. Decipher where the important documents for your business are and make sure these people know that location. Do whatever you need to do, including having a life insurance policy, to make sure all your employees still get paid and your clients get served until they can replace you.

Relationally, consider sending little videos or letters to your loved ones when you think of it. In those messages, tell them the things you want them to know about what you love about them. Tell them your hopes and dreams for them, the best days you spent with them, what they mean to you, and why they mattered to you.

Things can change in a heartbeat. You need to take these things and make sure that they’re in order for those you will leave behind and who will have to clean up after you.
